A congress is a formal meeting of representatives from different countries (or by extension constituent states), or independent organizations (such as different trade unions). The term Congress was chosen for the United States Congress to emphasize the status of each state represented there as a self-governing unit. Subsequently to the use of congress by the US legislature, the term has been adopted by many states within unions, and by unitary nation-states in the Americas, to refer to their legislatures. Q. I ask this in reference to some claiming the "War Powers Act" as an excuse for Bush to have the authority of a king. The War Powers Act - allows the President to use military forces for 60 days, without a formal declaration of war by Congress. It also grants an additional 30 days upon a formal request by the President, regardless of Congress's agreement with the request. SJG (below) Wow! A completely wrong and baseless answer. Go figure... They just gave the Bush administration permission to use force, if necessary. I'm still not quite sure what made it necessary. Answered by BekindtoAnimals22 - Sun Dec 9 14:13:50 2007 How do you petition congress when the company your going against has more power than you? Q. I wouould like congress to pass a new version of the copyright law that basicly abolisheis the DCMA and replaces it with something like the the early 1980s version of copyright, with the slight tweak that all new software or digital media must be true open source with gnu pricipals 1 and 3 enforced. (meaning use is user directed not corprate directed.) Trouble is, most media companys have loby power. How do we defeat them. I am looking for actual stratagies, not mearly sentiments. Asked by SamwiseGardner - Tue Dec 25 22:59:50 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. to actually win this battle you will need to find someone who can write the law, then you will have to find a senator and a representative that will sponsor it. if that happens the usual mode of operation will be undertaken and in about two years you may actually see some kind of action. 3 to 5 years from the time the process starts you may see votes in appropriate committees and soon after votes by both houses. depending on who is in the white house at that time if it ever was passed it may well be vetoed. a lot of "wheels" to be "greased" along the way but it is possible just without strong financial and political support highly unlikely. Answered by michr - Tue Dec 25 23:10:14 2007 What statute written by U.S. Congress requires Americans to file an income tax return?
Q. Hi . . . I am having a bit of a debate with the director of a certain film on google video and could use some help with the following question: 1. Show what statute written by the Congress of the United States requires Americans to file an income tax confession (return) and pay an income tax. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks. Asked by unknown - Wed Feb 20 12:41:52 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Title 26 of the U.S. Code is the codification of all federal tax laws. Section 6011 specifies the requirement of a return. The word "Confession" leads me to the conclusion that they think that a return is a violation of the fifth amendment right against self-incrimination. Tax protesters try and use the Constitution, but they haven't even read it. Here is the portion of the fifth amendment that relates to self-incrimination. "...nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself..." Notice it says CRIMINAL. Filing income tax returns and the requirements to do so are CIVIL actions. Here is what the court says about the fifth amendment argument. In United States v.
